A Research Study of Computer-Based Tutoring of Mathematical and Scientific Knowledge. Final Technical Report / Ira Goldstein.

Computer coaching of students as an aid in problem-solving instruction is discussed. This report describes an advanced form of computer-assisted instruction that must not only present the material to be taught, but also analyze the student's responses. The program must decide whether to intervene an...

This report describes an advanced form of computer-assisted instruction that must not only present the material to be taught, but also analyze the student's responses. The program must decide whether to intervene and how much to say to a pupil based on its knowledge of the player or players in an ever-changing context. The focus of this project is problem solving using the Wumpus Game. An evolution of computer coaches from a simple rule-based approach to a more complex model is described. (MP)
