520 |a Presented are two documents focusing on a peer leadership training program which pairs better students and leaders with younger high-risk students. One document briefly describes the peer leadership training program as a program in which students traveled to an environmental education center for 3 days of competitive and challenging activities, competing in social actualization experiences and orienteering where teamwork was emphasized. It notes that, as the program evolved, at-risk ninth graders worked with upperclass leaders, thus creating a community which carries back to the school environment. The other and longer document is a peer leadership training manual which presents forms, schedules, etc. used in the program and describes program activities. The activities are grouped in these categories: (1) scavenger hunts; (2) introduce your partner; (3) group symbol; (4) contracts; (5) mailboxes; (6) trust-building; (7) writing assignments; (8) sensory experiences; (9) leadership and communication skills; (10) leadership skills; (11) problem-solving; (12) personal goal-setting; (13) closure; (14) advanced communication skills; (15) peer pressure; (16) empathy through role-reversal; (17) wooden blocks competition; (18) fantasies; (19) projection exercise; (20) fishbowl technique; and (21) energizers. A bibliography is included. (ABL)
