Summary: |
The vocabulary-building curriculum is designed for students, teachers, coordinators, and curriculum developers in vocational English as a Second Language. The curriculum gives high intermediate to advanced students background for a course in beginning carpentry, surveying the essential tools and materials used in the carpenter's workplace. Dialogues allow students to practice vocabulary use in context. Important grammatical structures are integrated with vocabulary from the text. The curriculum has five chapters covering hand tools, power tools, fasteners, sandpaper, and lumber. Each contains three lessons enabling students to identify and understand the use of the tools and materials. Lessons consist of an overview; a list of objectives; a list of terms and expressions to be emphasized; definitions or descriptions of key vocabulary terms with illustrations; and various exercises, including identification, question-and-answer, substitution, and games. A list of references and a glossary are appended. (MSE) (Adjunct ERIC Clearinghouse on Literacy Education) |
