520 |a This book is designed to help teachers maximize their students' learning of Logo. It investigates what students learn when they learn Logo, and how teachers know what they are learning. The book is intended primarily for teachers at the upper elementary and middle school levels. Each chapter is devoted to a critical aspect of Logo learning, and the chapters have subheadings that identify specific behaviors, skills, or concepts related to Logo learning. The chapters include: (1) Procedures and Subprocedures; (2) Procedures with Variables; (3) Mathematics of Turtle Geometry--Using 360 Degrees; (4) Mathematics of Turtle Geometry--Using Mathematical Thinking; (5) Strategies for Learning through Exploration; (6) Debugging Strategies; (7) Planning, Carrying Out, and Completing a Logo Project; (8) Managing Workspace and Files; (9) A Reflective Teacher's Interventions with a Tentative Learner of Logo--A Case Study; and (10) When Teacher and Student are Stumped. The critical aspect discussed in each chapter is illustrated by many examples of Logo work by students in Grades 4-8. The appendix provides a Critical Aspects Checklist and Notepage. (Contains 72 references.) (TMK)
