|a By studying the lives, important achievements, and works of famous artists, students may come to understand what those artists hoped to communicate to the world. By participating in art activities that are related to these artists' styles, students practice skills of observing, analyzing, and creating. This instructional guide provides biographical information on 19 artists, followed by a corresponding art activity and an evaluation sheet requiring critical response. Artists introduced include Alexander Calder, Mary Cassatt, Paul Cezanne, Marc Chagall, Edgar Degas, Albrecht Durer, Edward Hicks, Winslow Homer, Dorothea Lange, Henri Matisse, Claude Monet, Henry Moore, Anna Mary Robertson Moses (Grandma Moses). Georgia O'Keeffe, Jackson Pollock, Harmenszoon van Rijn Rembrandt, Georges Seurat, Vincent Van Gogh, and Frank Lloyd Wright. Student project report forms, extension activities, a glossary, and a bibliography conclude the guide. (MM)
