To examine how the school districts profiled in "Gaining the Arts Advantage: Lessons from School Districts That Value Arts Education" are responding to the demands of how to provide high quality public education to all students throughout the country and whether their communities continue to support arts education, the Arts Education Partnership invited the profiled districts to Washington, DC, on October 13, 2000. Thirty-two district representative teams (including board members, superintendents, principals, supervisors, teachers, and community leaders) and representatives from the federal government were in attendance. "Crossfire" host Bill Press moderated a panel and audience dialogue with the local board presidents and superintendents. Notes were taken at all sessions to capture the key points. The report is divided into the following sections: "Introduction"; "Sustaining Success" (How Districts Are Sustaining Success; How Districts Are Sustaining Budgets); "Meeting Challenges" (Contending with Population Change; Responding to New Accountability Systems; Finding and Retaining Competent Teachers; Maintaining Continuity in Leadership and Direction); "Summing Up"; "The Impact of Research"; "Acknowledgments"; and "Participating Districts."
