Biographical Sketch:
Dr. George E. Brooks, Jr., Professor Emeritus, Department of History, Indiana University, received his Ph.D. in History from Boston University in 1962. His initial work on American trade with West Africa, 1789-1914, was the beginning of 50 years of research on traders from many countries, with a focus on Senegambia and the Upper Guinea Coast before 1900. In his many books, Dr. Brooks discussed trading networks, cultural change, and the impact of climate on politics and trade.
