Bebo Valdés, an 85-year-old Cuban pianist, travels to Candeal, a poor neighborhbood in Salvador de Bahía, Brazil, to search for his roots. While there, he meets Afro-Brazilian musician Carlinhos Brown and joins in the vibrant musical life of the community.
