Description
Summary:
The first poster shows photographs of African women protesting and advocating for an end to apartheid in South Africa. Two women hold posters demanding better pay, the right to organize, and shorter work hours. Others protest in front of the Supreme Court in Johannesburg. There is a photo of a woman with half of her face bloodied and disfigured from a police beating. The second poster shows groups of female demonstrators holding their fists in the air and holding signs saying, "Power to the people." In a number of photographs, women mourn their dead husbands, who were killed by policemen during protest.
