Electronic reproduction of selected cartographic material from Colonial Office and Public Record Office files CO 700, MPG 1, MFQ 1, MPI 1 at the National Archives (U.K.). Mainly 18th and 19th century, there are historical maps of West Africa (including Gambia, the Gold Coast, Sierra Leone and Guinea), the Caribbean (including Antigua, Barbados, Jamaica, St Vincent, St Kitts, Nevis, St Lucia, the Danish Virgin Islands, Tobago, Trinidad, Dominica, Leeward Islands and Belize), North America (including Kentucky, Louisiana, Virginia, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Canada). There are also maps of South America and Australia. The material covers a wide range of topics and includes: 18th century plans of European forts (Dutch, British and others) on the African coast; maps and plans in connection with the activities of the Royal African Company; an 1878 map of Sierra Leone with a list of "Treaties of friendship, for abolition of slavery, freedom of trade, and promising stipends to chiefs, &c."; plans of plantations; and a plan of land in the Parish of St. James, Jamaica, granted to Maroons of Trelawny Town in 1739.
