Description
Summary:
Of the 1.5 million tax-exempt organisations registered with the IRS, roughly 20% are human service nonprofits. They received about $29.6 billion in charitable contributions in 2007 (10% of all contributions). Although government funding is a major driving force, philanthropic funding is clearly important to human service nonprofits (about 15% of combined revenues). However, securing such funding requires solid understanding of the fundraising process and dedicated time and effort. Competition for donations (and fundraising expertise) appears to be growing for human service nonprofits, with donations from individuals, United Way, and corporate contributions most at risk.
