520 |a Child psychiatrist Robert Coles talks about his family, education, career, friends and colleagues in an oral history interview. Coles, an author and professor emeritus at Harvard University, reminisces about his mother and father, medical school, meeting his wife while working as a resident at Mass General Hospital counseling young polio patients, and teaching at Harvard. Coles says that he hated medical school, but pushed himself because he was intent on pursuing a medical career. Coles also talks about celebrities he has met, why he and his wife moved to New Mexico to work with Native American children, his relationships with Grete Bibring and Anna Freud, and his civil rights work in Mississippi. Coles is interviewed by David Cooper, Michigan State University professor of Professor Writing, Rhetoric and American Cultures, in Concord, MA.
