In Philadelphia, he attended William Pierce Elementary School, Gillespie Junior High School and Fleisher Art Memorial. He graduated from Simon Gratz High School in 1954 and earned his B.F.A degree from the University of the Arts in 1958. In 1964, Beach was elected as the first African American president of the Artist Guild of Delaware Valley and he served in that capacity until 1967. Beach founded the African American Commemorative Society in 1968 and, with friends, started the African American Historical Calendar in 1970. He also participated in the White House Conferences on Small Businesses. Beach, a recipient of numerous honors, including Addy, Neographic, and Art Directors Club awards, founded the Beach Advertising/Communications firm in 1974. He served as a trustee of the University for the Arts and the Pennsylvania Academy for the Arts.
