Television and non-profit executive Allison Jeanne Davis was born on April 7, 1953, in New York City. She earned her B. S. degree in journalism from Boston University in 1975. Davis began her career as a writer, producer and reporter for WBZ-TV in Boston and KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh. From 1981 until 1998, she served as an executive producer for NBC News and MSNBC, where she built a team of "cyberjournalists," and helped launch MSNBC.com. Davis developed, wrote and produced The Scholastic-NBC News Video, and worked as a writer and producer for the NBC News' Today morning news program. From 1998 to 2004, she served as senior vice president/creative of CBS and Dunbar Productions, affiliated with TV host Bryant Gumbel. Davis was vice president of the Jackie Robinson Foundation; director of communications at Riverside Church in New York; and a founding member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
