Description
Summary:
"This collection of Native American recipes and remedies is the result of many years of research, including personal interviews with the Chippewa, Sioux, Ottawa, and Cree Indians of the Upper Midwest and Canada, as well as Alaskan Eskimos, and Aleuts. These are original recipes and are not typical of the way these people prepare food today. However, with the addition of seasonings now available and other favorite foods, many of the recipes will provide 'good eating' by today's standards. Although some of the remedies in this book are used to this day, none of them is recommended by the author to treat illness or disease. They are contained in this book for purposes of historical interest and information only. In terms of today's culture, some of the recipes and remedies may seem strange and even humorous. This book is not written, however, to entertain or to ridicule. It has often been said that necessity is the mother of invention. When faced with starvation, it is amazing how good some strange foods may taste. Before you laugh at any of the recipes, try them - you just might like them!" --Page 9.
