|a Company L; Davis was a runner and bugler for Company L; Neumarkt; Danube; Regensburg; His unit for the most part stayed in reserve but there was at least one instance near Neumarkt where he took heavy fire from German soldiers and 88mm artillery pieces; he also recalled that by the time the 65th Infantry Division entered Germany there was not much heavy resistance and that they started seeing more older men and young boys; in addition he recalled that German soldiers comprising of young boys and older men surrendered to them towards the end of the war; he also met with the Russians; he noted after the Russians returned to their side of the Endz river he recalled hearing loud screaming mayhem originating from the civilians; he also heard stories of massive looting, killing and raping by the Russian soldiers on the civilian population; after the war his unit was disbanded and he was later sent to Austria attached to the 9th Division.
