520 |a This is the revised and corrected edition of the French translation of the De honesta voluptate et valetudine ("On Right Pleasure and Good Health"), the first cookbook printed in Europe. The first French version (Le Platine en français), was published in 1505 by François Fradin after the translation by French humanist poet Barthélémy Aneau, with the dietary adaptations of Didier Christol, prior of the monastery of Saint -Maurice de Montpellier. Christol's version was so successful in France that it was reprinted eight times in Lyon: 1509, 1522, 1528, 1539, 1548, 1559, 1567, and, as here, 1571.
