She graduated from the College of Mount Saint Vincent with her B.A. degree in sociology and social work. From 1972 to 1981, Wilson worked for WPIX-TV as a commercial coordinator; the Seamen's Society for Children and Families as a social worker; and for the New York Board of Education as director of counseling and special projects. From 1981 until 1988, she worked in management positions at New York Airlines and Continental Airlines. Then, after serving as a top executive of diversity and leadership development at Times-Mirror Company from 1988 to 1999, Wilson was named senior vice president of diversity development at Fox Entertainment Group in 2000, where she became the highest-ranking African American female executive at the company. She then assumed responsibility for all diversity efforts for News Corporation in 2005. In 2011, Wilson became a founding partner of ForAfrica.
