Includes a picture of men of various races and ethnic groups holding letters of the alphabet. This lithographed illustration is found in other McLoughlin titles issued between 1882 and 1889. Lower cover bears a chromolithograph of a balding Santa Claus with the caption, "Yours truly, Santa-Claus." The fine reproductive quality of the designs on upper and lower cover is characteristic of McLoughlin picture books issued roughly between 1885 and 1899. Cover included in pagination. Chromolithographed illustrations based on designs by Thomas Nast. Back cover design of Santa Claus bowing was produced by R. Shugg Co.; cf.
