Description
Summary:
Harue Hayashida, a native of Hiroshima born in 1973, is a reporter who has interviewed over 100 hibakusha in North and South America. Some of her articles can be found on the Hiroshima Peace Media Center website created by the Chugoku Shimbun. She reflects on the differences between these overseas hibakusha and those in Japan as well as the common traits shared by overseas hibakusha. She talks about how the mass media can bring light to the issues faced by hibakusha and in particular discusses examining hibakusha through the lens of gender. She talks about the biennial medical checkups for hibakusha and thinks that the cost of medical care is the biggest issue faced by overseas hibakusha.
