Previous owner's inscription on recto of front free endpaper: "Lincoln MacVeagh, Hotel Madison, 143 Boul. St. Germain, April 1928". MacVeagh was a United States soldier, diplomat, businessman, and archaeologist. According to the timeline of his life found on Wikipedia, he used this book during the period between when he founded Dial Press (1923) and when President Franklin D. Roosevelt appointed him to be the Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Greece (1933). Many handwritten, detailed notes throughout book, including ten written Paris restaurant reviews in the "Fiche gastronomique" section at end, some dated 1928 or 1929. The reviews detail the restaurant name, address, date and time visited, how many guests, menu, wines, bill total, what was ordered, and MacVeagh's personal review of the food, service and atmosphere.
