Pencil inscription on title page: "This book belongs to Martha H[umphrey?]" (partially obscured by pencil scribblings, which also cover much of title); inscription at head of page 340: "Mrs Susan Humph[rey?]"; recipes inscribed in pencil on recto and verso of first front fly-leaf (?), as well as recto of second front fly-leaf and on a sheet adhered to the rear paste-down; clipping (possibly from an Ingleheart's publication) with two cake recipes pinned to page 564; pencil caricature of a man in profile with a large nose at head of page 479; more pencil scribblings on pages 167 and 491; a few recipes have penciled "x" or other markings next to them, or other inscriptions (like "apple" on page 245; "salt" and "pie" on page 258).

Laid-in materials (now available in MSS 466): Lined paper with two recipes for mincemeat in manuscript (found between first and second front fly-leaves); leaf torn from another source, with manuscript recipe for "Baltimore salad" in pencil (some text lost after tearing-out; found between first and second front fly-leaves); one gathering (pages 43-50) from an edition of "Dont's for Girls" (found between page 604 and rear paste-down); fragment of a sheet of paper, preserving a portion of an inscription in pencil, including, possibly, a name (found between page 604 and rear paste-down).
